Watercolor Lessons

I started taking watercolor lessons in September 2017, and these are some of the pictures we have painted in class. I'm a little late getting started in logging my paintings, so they may not be in exact order of completion, but at least they will be cataloged. My most recent paintings are of Pita, my niece's cat. One is more realistic and one is more fun. I finished these this week (January 2019).

 

My teacher (Karen) and I started our sunflowers together (December 2018), but I brought mine home and finished it up here, with a few phone message consultations. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but I'm happy with the results. :)

This iris took a few lessons (November/December 2018) to complete, and all along the way I thought it would end up in the junk pile. I just couldn't see it coming together. With encouragement from my teacher, I finished it and I'm so glad I did! I love how it came out, and it may be my favorite so far.

In November 2017, Jon and I went to Twin Falls for a couple days. While we were there, we were able to tour the house Jon grew up in. It has since been converted into a dental office, but they were kind enough to show us around. I thought it would make a fun Christmas card for his family. I finally got it finished (November 2018) and we sent them out for Christmas 2018. I was happy the family recognized the house.

I saw a photo on my niece's Facebook page, and just had to try my hand at it (August 2018). It isn't meant to be super detailed, and I like how it came out. I do wish I had put in the watering can that was in the original photo. 

In July we took a trip to Roseburg, Oregon to visit Jon's brother Dale. On the way home we stopped at the beautiful Toketee Falls. By the time we got around to painting this picture (September 2018), it was fall, so we changed the landscape just a bit.

This was a fun spring painting (May 2018). I'd love to do more like this!

This is one of the few watercolor paintings where I was working from the subject itself (July 2018), rather than a photo. It was a challenge but I really enjoyed it!

This was my second attempt at dogwood tree blossoms (May 2018). I took the photo at a neighbor's house so I could paint them.

This was my first rose (January and February 2018), and quite a challenge for me.
